Saliva Testing
Salivary testing is the best test method for testing unbalanced and balanced hormones because saliva contains free fractions of stress and sex hormones. Free fractions are the utilizable hormones, those that the body actually has access to. Over 300 studies in the last five years have used saliva as a diagnostic medium to measure free hormone levels. These studies have been conducted showing the validity of assaying these steroid hormones in saliva. Blood sample testing for unbalanced and balanced hormones, measure total hormone production, a value that includes bound (not free) hormones that are unavailable for the body's use.
A healthy hormone-balancing program should consist of a baseline saliva test to measure hormone levels in the body for:
- Estradiol
- Progesterone
- Testosterone
- DHEA
- Cortisol levels (a.m. and p.m.)
A healthy hormone-balancing program should also consist of blood spot testing to measure hormone levels in the body for:
- Thyroid function
- Insulin resistance
- IGF-1 for human growth hormone
- PSA (males only)
After receipt of the saliva testing and/or blood spot testing results, the use of non-prescription, bio-identical creams, supplementation for adrenal support and/or insulin resistance may be needed.
A detoxification program should also be included for the reduction of heavy metals that can block hormone receptor sites of the cells. The use of proper enzymes will aid in the digestion and assimilation of nutrients. Enzymes will also help with the elimination of excess hormones. Incorporating exercise and a diet rich in organic foods, reducing carbohydrates and sugars, will help create the support that your Endocrine System needs to naturally balance hormonal function.
